Ranveer Singh was born in a Sindhi family to Anju and Jagjit Singh Bhavnani. The family moved from Karachi to Mumbai during the partition of India.
Screen name/Real name Ranveer Singh Bhavnani /  Screen Name – Ranveer Singh since he dropped the family surname Bhavnani.

Early Life Ranveer Singh was born in a Sindhi family to Anju and Jagjit Singh Bhavnani. The family moved from Karachi to Mumbai during the partition of India. He is a cousin to Anil Kapoor’s children as his wife Sunita Kapoor is a Bhavnani before marriage and related to Ranveer’s father.    Ranveer decided to drop the name Bhavnani when he joined the filmline as it would be too long and thus decided to keep it short as Ranveer Singh. He had always aspired to be an actor participating in several school plays and debates during his growing years.  He was also fond of dancing.    While he was studying at H.R College of Commerce and Economics he decided to go to the United States where he received his Bachelor’s Degree  in Arts from Indiana University and focused on creative writing .    
Personal Life After completing his bachelor’s degree from Bloomington at the Indiana University , he decided to join acting classes and took up theatre as well.   He returned to Mumbai in 2007 . He worked as a copywriter with O&M and J.Walter Thompson . He further worked as an assistant director but left it as well to pursue a career in the films. Thats when he decided to send his portfolio to directors.  He started giving many auditions during this period but no opportunity came his way .  
Career In January 2010, Ranveer Singh was called for an audition by Shanoo Sharma who is the head of the casting division of Yash Raj Films.  The audition proved to be impressive and he was selected by Aditya Chopra to do the lead role in their film Band Baaja Baraat with Anushka Sharma. His role was of Bittoo Sharma the hero of the film as a typical Delhi boy. The film was a sleeper hit and Bittoo’s role that he played was praised as a perfect one for Ranveer. The film not only was a superhit but also did extremely well at the Box Office with earning of approximately  214 million( US$3.2 million) and he won his first award of Best Male Debut at the 56th Filmfare Awards. Following Band Baaja Baraat, Ranveer Singh was signed for the film Ladies vs Ricky Bahl a romantic comedy film producted by Chopra . He plays a role of a conman who cons girls for a living . The film once again co-starred with Anushka Sharma and Parineeti Chopra, Dipannita Sharma and Aditi Sharma.   The role was much of a character with different avatars in the film that kept the audience glued to the film and this film was once again a commercial success with an average earning of 370 million(US$ 5.5 million)   Success comes his way from 2013 Ranveer Singh’s next film released was Lootera in 2013, directed by Vikramaditya Motwane co-starring Sonakshi Sinha.  The film was critically acclaimed that had left a lasting impression for his performance though the film did quite poor at the box office. Following Lootera, he starred opposite to Deepika Padukone in Sanjay Leela Bhansali’s blockbuster film Goliyon Ki Raasleela Ram-Leela , an adaptation of William Shakespeare’s Romeo and Juliet.   Bhansali was impressed seeing his acting in Band Baaja Baraat and had offered this role keeping him in mind . His role in the film was much appreciated and the film went on to perform well at the Box office  as well and the film emerged as one of Ranveer Singh’s biggest commercial success with a grossing revenue of 2.02 Billion (US$ 30 million). He received several nominations including that of a Best Actor Award as well. In 2014, Ranveer Singh starred as a Bengali Criminal in Gunday along with Arjun Kapoor, Priyanka Chopra and Irrfan Khan , a film by Ali Abbas Zafar.   The film proved to be once again a success at the box office that garnered with a 1 billion (US$ 15 million) .  In Kill dil opposite Parineeti Chopra, Ranveer Singh has acted as a gangster and was a crime drama film which did not do well and was an unsuccessful film that received lot of negative reviews. Next was Zoya Akhtar’s ensemble comedy and family drama Dil Dhadakne Do in 2015 with Anil Kapoor Shefali Chaya, Anushka Sharma and Priyanka Chopra. The film did fairly well though is role as a dysfunctional punjabi boy and a role played that of the younger sibling to Priyanka Chopra in the film with a twist to a comic timing . In the same year Ranveer Singh once again collaborated with Sanjay Leela Bhansali for his film Bajirao Mastani opposite his lady love Deepika Padukone and Priyanka Chopra.   In this film he portrays the role of Bajirao for which he had to shave his head  . In this film Ranveer Singh is said to have acted with grace with an attire of a golfer lehnga clad. He won the Filmfare Award for Best Actor. In 2016, He once again appeared in Aditya Chopra’s romance film Befikre opposite Vaani Kapoor. The film is about a Delhi boy set in Paris . The film opened to a positive response for his role as Dharam Gulati and Ranveer is currently working on a film once again with Sanjay Leela Bhansali for his forthcoming film Padmavati with Shahid Kapoor and Deepika Padukone.      
Other works Ranveer Singh besides acting has endorsed about 16 brands that include Adidas, Head & Shoulder, Chings, Jack & Jones, Kelloggs to name a few. Is interested in Creative writing, playing football and is fond of theatre .
Awards Ranveer Singh has received Best Actor Award for his roles in Band Baaja Baraat , Goliyon Ki Raasleela Ram-Leela - and for Bajirao Mastani. He has also received several nominations and a few for supporting Best Actor as well.
