Mainstream debut in Bollywood (1986) Acclaimed director Mukul .S. Anand was the first director to place Karan Kapoor in the mainstream Hindi cinema circle with his ensemble drama flick Sultanat which was also a special release for two other reasons, being the official debut of actress Juhi Chawla and also the first on screen pairing of Dharmendra with his son Sunny Deol. The movie had Karan Kapoor playing the love interest of the character played by Juhi Chawla in a supporting role. He had nothing spectacular to do in a side-lined role but ended up making a successful debut even though the movie faired only moderately well. Further two film acting stint ( 1987-1988) Karan Kapoor then went on to act next in the ensemble film Loha in the year 1987 along with Dharmendra, Shatrughan Sinha, Amrish Puri and Mandakini in the lead. The movie saw Karan Kapoor playing a drug dealer who gets drawn in to a hostage rescue mission only to have other plans in mind on the situation. The film was one of the highest grossers of the year and its music album was a tremendous crowd puller especially with songs like “Isa Pir Na Musa Pir”. The movie which was a major success in Dharmendra’s career. Karan Kapoor was seen last in the crime drama Afsar in the year 1988.
Career & Achievements
Karan Kapoor will always be the trademark face of dye brand “Bombay Dyeing” for every Indian. Karan Kapoor although only with a very small number of films in his filmography has made himself known Bollywood. He has made his mark in photography and has even won the International Photography Award in the year 2009, which is a rare feat for any Indian photographer. He is the only Bollywood actor who has been catapulted to the level of a major professional photographer.
