Early Life Pooja Bhatt was born to legendary filmmaker Mahesh Bhatt and Kiran Bhatt in Mumbai. Actress Alia Bhatt is her half-sister. Born to a filmmaker, Bhatt began her acting career at the age of seventeen in the Television Film Daddy helmed by her father; the movie had her playing a coming of age girl who is in search of her estranged father. Her soulful performance landed her in her film debut in the year 1991 through Dil Hai Ke Manta Nahin.
Personal Life Pooja Bhatt tied the knot with MTV VJ Manish Makhija , a marriage which lasted for eleven years before they divorced in the year 2014 after they found it hard to continue living together for some personal issues.
Career Film Debut in Dil Hai Ke Manta Nahin ( 1991)   Mahesh Bhatt cast her daughter opposite Aamir Khan in his romantic drama Dil Hai Ke Manta Nahin, where she was seen as girl who falls in love with a loud mouthed journalist, on the way to marry her real love after a turn of events. The movie was a super hit and critics praised the intense chemistry shared between the lead pair and won accolades for her performance.   Subsequent acting stint ( 1991 – 2001)   Pooja Bhatt was cast later the same year, opposite Sanjay Dutt in the romantic thriller Sadak. Pooja Bhatt was seen as a prostitute in the movie who fumbles upon a guild ridden insomniac taxi driver played by Dutt in one of her escape attempts from a brothel. The movie too turned gold for Bhatt as it was a blockbuster and emerged as one of the highest grossers of the year 1991 with encouraging reviews.   Mahesh Bhatt cast her yet again in his supernatural horror thriller Junoon in 1992 alongside Rahul Roy which was a sleeper outing. 1993 was a busy year for Bhatt with three major releases up her sleeve all of which were helmed by her father himself, which began with Sir where she co-starred with Naseeruddin Shah, where she appeared as a girl with a stammering problem. Phir Teri Kahani Yaad Aaye which was a television release on Zee TV and her third release was   Taadipar opposite Mithun Chakraborty which is still known for its super hit music album.   Pooja Bhatt had a handful of releases in 1994 mostly paired with Mithun Chakraborty as in Ghunegar and Naaraaz all of which had mediocre reactions from film goers.   She had a commercial money spinner in Hum Donno where she acted along with Rishi Kapoor and Nana Patekar, the movie went on to be a surprise hit with splendid reviews.    After an uneventful pairing with Sunny Deol in Angarakshak , she went on to star opposite Shah Rukh Khan once again in her father’s directorial Chaahat in 1996, which had a decent run at commercially and has a cult status.   The year 1997 saw Pooja Bhatt playing the title character in Mahesh Bhatt’s Paresh Rawal starrer Tamanna, she also served as the financer of the movie which dealt with serious social issue prevalent at the time also got Pooja Bhatt the National Film Award for Best Film on Other Social Issues as the producer.   J.P Dutta was next in line to cast her in a major supporting role in his war drama Border along with an ensemble cast of Sunny Deol, Sunil Shetty, Akshaye Khanna and Jackie Shroff among others. Bhatt was seen playing the love interest of Akshaye Khanna in the film which went on to be the highest grosser of 1997 and is considered a classic.   Pooja Bhatt also played the lead in Priyadarsan’s 1998 crime film Kabhi Na Kabhi which had a bad run.   Mahesh Bhatt continued casting her in his drama film Zakhm opposite Ajay Devgn. Sanam Teri Kasam and the critically acclaimed Everybody Says I’m Fine! Were her last releases as an actor, which released in the years 2000 and 2001 respectively   Tenure as a director and producer   Pooja Bhatt has served as the director for many of her own productions. Her debut directorial was the2003 crime thriller Paap, which had John Abraham and Udita Goswami in the lead. The movie was a critical phenomenon although turned out to be a flop at the box office. Bhatt then directed the musical romance movie Holiday with Dino Morea and Onjolee Nair in the lead. Dhoka was her next project which narrated the story of a cop who wakes up one day to realize that his dead wife was a suicide bomber destined to kill people at a club.  The crime drama had Muzammil Ibrahim and Tulip Joshi in the lead, also receiving positive critic’s verdict. Her first directorial project for an outside production house was the romantic drama Kajraare in 2010. The Himesh Reshammiya starrer had Pakistani actress Sara Loren in the lead which told the story of the quest for true love between a singer and bar dancer   The year 2012 saw Bhatt coming up with the sequel to her own 2003 production venture Jism through Jism 2 starring Sunny Leone and Randeep Hooda in the lead , the erotic thriller had  wide release and opened to mostly mixed reviews and was a commercial hit though it garnered much controversy pre-release  for unnecessarily glamourizing a porn star through it. Pooja Bhatt’s upcoming production is the romantic film Cabaret starring Richa Chadda and Gulshan Devaiaha and is also reported to have Indian cricketer S. Sreesanth in a pivotal role in the lead,which is set to release this year.            
Awards Pooja Bhatt in her career has received the following Awards : Filmfare Award for Lux New Face of the Year for Daddy in 1991. National Film Award for Best Film on Other Social Issues  as producer for Tamanna in 1997 Nargis Dutt Award for Best Feature Film on National Integration as producer for Zakhm in 1998.
Other works Pooja Bhatt is also worked as the production designer of many of her productions like Jism, Paap for which she worked as a part of the crew. Pooja Bhatt has also served as the producer of many of her movies as well as other production’s like Dushman , Jism, Rog, Holiday, Dhoka ,Paap  and many more movie’s which were landmark critically acclaimed outings in Bollywood.
Milestones Pooja Bhatt is one of the most popular celebrity figures in India. She other than making a mark in Bollywood as an actress where she went on to pair with legends like Shah Rukh Khan, Aamir Khan , Sanjay Dutt , Paresh Rawal and many more in a relatively small acting career which lasted for closed to eleven years with just a handful of movies to her credit. Pooja Bhatt was also responsible for bringing about a change in the way Bollywood heroines were looked upon in the latter part of 1990’s with her unconventional and rooted characters which were uprooted the traditional heroine concepts in Btown at that point of time. Bhatt has also made her mark as a filmmaker later on with films like Paap ,Dhoka and more which changed the very syntax of Hindi cinema.
