Desh Premee Story Of Betrayal, Rescue, And Freedom Featuring Amitabh Bachchan In Dual Role

Today we talk about yet another film by Amitabh Bachchan the legendary superstar who has been one of the top superstars of our country and each of his films stand out to create a history in the film industry. One such film is Desh Premee directed by Manmohan Desai, with screenplay and story written by Kader Khan, K B Pathak and Prayag Raj.  Starring in the film are Amitabh Bachchan, Hema Malini, Parveen Babi, Shammi Kapoor, Premnath and Navin Nischol.

The story is about Master Dinanath who is an ex-freedom fighter.  When Dinanath arrests smuggler Thakur Pratap Singh, to avenge the insult he kidnaps Master Dinanath’s wife and young daughter Priti and also gets the public turned against him.  To avoid the wrath of the public, Dinanath escapes with his young son Raju. He is made to believe that his wife and daughter are dead.  In the meantime his wife Bharati contracts leprosy and she too escapes the clutches of the smuggler Thakur Pratap Singh and leaves her young daughter Priti with her friend. 

Dinanath with his son lands up in a village Bharati Nagar that is ruled by four underworld dons, who are from different communities.  Dinanath persuades the four of them to live harmoniously and in peace and tries to help them settle their differences.  The four of them are involved in illegal activities and they schemingly allow Dinanath to stay in the village to hide their own illegal activity.   This happens way back in 1962 and the film moves on to 15 years later when Dinanath’s son Raju is now a young handsome man but is drawn towards the illegal activities by the underworld don.and starts earning money through crimes which the father is not aware of. 

Raju starts working for smuggler Thakur Pratap Singh, unaware that he was the man who had kidnapped his mother and sister 15 years ago and had cause the happy family to be separated and see a lot of misery in their life.  At the end he realizes it and fights the crime to find his mother and sister.

The Amitabh Bachchan craze was at its peak during this film and therefore hugely appreciated. The songs were popular too . Overall, an entertaining film with the magic by Amitabh and Mamohan Desai together, the film celebrated its golden jubilee in Hyderabad and was a success in the 1982.
