With the film Brahmachari, Shammi Kapoor proved his versatility as an actor Since most of Shammi Kapoor films were musical hits hence he never got the opportunity to display his versatility as an actor. That is primarily also the reason he was never in the Filmfare award race though in movies like Professor, China Town and Rajkumar he did gave a fine performance. After his wife’s death in the mid 60’s Shammi Kapoor was a broken man. He did films only for producer’s sake as he had lost passion in films. But when filmmaker G.P. Sippy (Of Sholay fane) offered him Brahmachari (1968) he was excited. In this film he is not the typical hero who sings songs round trees and over mountains with the heroine, instead he is a middle class press photographer, who takes care of many orphan children. He is golden hearted man. One day he rescues a pretty woman (Rajshree) from committing suicide as she had been dumped off by his wicket boyfriend (Pran). How Shammi Kapoor helps unite the woman with his boyfriends forms the climax of the film. The movie, as usual, had good music like the hit song Aajkal Tere Mere Pyar Ke Charche… and Dil Ke Jharokhe Mein….. Shammi Kapoor gave a fabulous performance and for the first time won his First Filmfare Best Actor Award. What’s more he sideline thespian Dilip Kumar who was nominated for and Aadmi and Sunghursh!

The reason he changed so many school was that he was a naughty boy and instead of study he would be seen spending time at school dramatic or in music room. After SSC he did join Ramnarain Ruia College but when his father noticed his interest in dramatics he employed him in his theatrical company Prithvi Theatres. He began his career as a junior artist with Rs 50 salary per month!!! He worked for four years in Prithvi Theatres till he got his first break in the film Jeewan Jyoti (1953)
