Mahesh Bhatt is Anupam Kher’s Guru who gave him a break in his film Saaransh in which
he has a pivotal role due to which he found a foothold in the film industry.
His role essayed as the desperate father of a dead son was much appreciated and
honored. So why is that Anupam Kher was
angry and had visited his Guru Mahesh Bhatt’s place and insulted him?
You
would have read in an interview that Anupam Kher had got selected for the lead
role in Saaransh and for which he travelled from Shimla to Mumbai to sign the
contract. But when he reached Mumbai he was shocked he was signed for the
second lead. This upset Anupam Kher as the second lead role was of that of a
friend to the main lead. Anupam Kher
went red and was extremely angry. He told Mahesh Bhatt, he had come all the
way from Shimla with lot of hopes after he had signed his film and that he had
lot of faith on Mahesh Bhatt for giving him this break.
But
upon reaching Mumbai when Mahesh Bhatt informed him that Rajshri Productions
had signed Sanjeev Kumar in the lead role, as they were not ready to gamble
their finance with a new comer like Anupam Kher. It wasn’t Mahesh Bhatt’s fault
but he got the brickbats from Anupam Kher.
When
Anupam Kher had given a mouthful to Mahesh Bhatt, the latter was upset for a
while but did not keep anger. He had
understood the plight of Anupam Kher but he was helpless. He had tears in his eyes and he decided he
would make Anupam Kher’s role more powerful than the lead actor. The next day
he went to Rajshri films and told them if he is making a film, it would only be
with Anupam Kher and if they are not interested in the film, he would look for
some other producer. Seeing the
confidence of Mahesh Bhatt for Anupam Kher, the Rajshri Production house also
decided to go as per his wish and they were happy to see Anupam Kher in the
protagonist role. Mahesh Bhatt called up Anupam Kher and gave him this good
news. The rest is history. Anupam Kher proved his worth in this film with his
brilliant acting.

Kher won an award for his role in this film and is today of the most brilliant
actors we have in the Hindi film industry.
