If Hindi Film Industry is known for the actors with a fear of flops would be visiting temples and mosques offering prayers to the Lord there were actors who would think otherwise !!  There was one such actor who was never scared of his films flopping. Instead he would announce that if his film flopped he would increase his rate by Rs. 1 Lakh .!


Who was this strange actor in the film industry who demanded a raise after every film of his that flopped at the box office. He was the pride of the industry , much respected actor of Hindi films and despite his flops, producers line up at his house to sign him and with every flop film released he was in a position to demand a raise ! If the film was a hit he would demand Rs. 2 lakhs in the next.


He was none other than the ‘Jaani’ aka Raaj Kumar and his rough voice used to say the famous word, ‘ Jaani’ simply went along with him as a famous tagline for the actor.  He comes in the top 50 to 90 stars of the film industry and he was never in the race to get.


Speciality of Raaj Kumar was, even though he had a parallel hero in the lead along with him, or he was a side hero, it was him that the audience who would flock in the theatres to see their favourite star and his dialogues. The viewers of Hindi films would specially come to see him like in the film Paigham the lead actor was Dilip Kumar but the film became a super hit also because of the presence of Raaj Kumar.  The Real superstar of the film. Audience and the media and critic were all praises for his character, his role and his persona on the screen.


In the 60’s Raaj Kumar is the only one single actor who was never worried about his films being a flop and he was also not the main lead and was always chosen to essay the role of a side hero the kind of character he essayed as the side hero , he managed to demand attention and people noticed him and the film went on to receive all success.


If you recall in the film Waqt, the real hero was Sunil Dutt, but Raaj Kumar was the life of the film. Dil Ek Mandir also was as per hit film with Rajendra Kumar in the  but it was because of Raaj Kumar’s role in it that the film went on to become a hit at the box office. In the film Huzoor Main Bhi Hero, he starred alongside with Jeetendra and the till date the public remembers Raaj Kumar in the film. 


There are many more like Kajal, Humraaz, Marada, Raaj Kumar proved that his acting skills were no less than of the lead hero and he also went on to become one of the top actors of the Indian cinema.
