Early Life Abhay Deol a 6 ft 1” handsome young man was born to Ajit Singh Deol and Usha Deol in a Sikh family which had a strong cinema background. Born in an influential family of the Hindi due to which he was into acting from his early days  .The young Deol took part in theatre activities in his school days itself. Deol was very much active in theatre programmes in his childhood which he remembers as what drew him into a career in acting .It took the young Deol ten years to realize his dream.
Personal Life Abhay Deol is the nephew of the famous veteran actor Dharmendra and is a cousin to actors Sunny Deol, Bobby Deol, and actress Esha Deol. He did his graduation from Mumbai University and went to Los Angeles to pursue fine arts where he did a two year course in acting after which he made his entry into cinema in the year 2005 with Socha Na Tha, which incidentally is the directorial debut of Director Imtiaz Ali too .Abhay Deol was in a open live –in relationship with the ‘Shore in the City’ fame actress Preeta Desai which came to an end after sometime.
Career Abhay Deol made his acting debut in Imtiaz Ali’s   romantic movie Socha Na Tha in the year 2005 alongside Ayesha Takia which went on to become a mediocre commercial success with much critical acclaim especially for Deol’s confident debut. Deol followed up with Ahista Ahista (2006) which too did good business .The year 2007 saw Deol starring in Honeymoon Travels Pvt.Ltd along withan ensemble cast , even though  only average grosser the film was appreciated for its experimental value and thetraits of the lead characters .Next in line for the year was the  a crime movie Ek Chalis Ki  Last Local which got highly encouraging reviews and was a surprise hit of the year 2007  after which came the neo noir thriller Manorama Six Feet Under,  which with a unconventional script paired with  the brilliant  performances of the lead caught the audience and critics in awe .The  movie had plot elements inspired from The Jack Nicholson classic “Chinatown” , although a box office let down MSFU earned Abhay Deol his very first award for Best actor. Deol as an actor takes frequent gaps between his films and commits to both off beat and commercial movies simultaneously. Abhay Deol has always been against the idea of brandingactors into the so called spheres of commercial and parallel cinema based on their films alone but felt the need for a more liberal cinema viewing culture .He starred next in acclaimed filmmaker Dibakar banerjee’s satirical black comedy Oye Lucky! Lucky Oye! which tooproduced widespread critical acclaim even  from the well-known critics praising the sarcastic  undertone of the proceedings and the way the movie was conceived as a highly entertaining affair , even though only a silent box office hit. Abhay Deol got his first major career break in Dev.D directed by Anurag Kashyap which sustained a brilliant commercial run and a equally impressive critical reception. The modern day adaptation  of Devdas , which was narrated with a sort of disturbing panache that made it a movie to remember for a long time .Abhay Deol the actor made his way into the  elite league with his  effective depiction of the hard hitting raw emotions of the protagonist .Zoya Akthar’s Zindagi Na Milegi Dobara saw Deol appearing alongside Hrithik Roshan and Farhan Akhtar which  turned out to be a huge money spinner  and which continued his good run .Abhay Deol’s peculiar brand of acting got him a nomination for the Filmfare Award for Best Supporting Actor in 2011  , and it was reported that he had learned  deep sea diving for a small portion of the movie . It is one of Deols most recognized characters till date which got a stunning reception from the viewers. Abhay Deol broke away from the shackles of commercial cinema yet again  in 2012 by  starring  in two political thrillers , Dibakar Banerjee’s Shanghai and in Prakash Jha’s Chakravyuh which subsequently went on to be two of the most sought after performances of his  whole career .Abhay Deol has been discussed among media as an actor whose primary strength is the depiction of highly complex ,intriguing  character’s .After a small cameo in Raanjhanaa Starring Dhanush , Abhay Deol went on to be a part of the English romantic time travel adventure film The Lovers in 2013   where he also served in post-production works too .  Then Deol’s career took a downward leap with the disaster romantic comedy One By Two which was put under heavy criticism from all corners for possibly everything ,he performed as the co-producer  of that rather forgettable outing .Happy Bhag Jayegi is Deol’s last  release which performed fairly good business .Abhay Deol’s upcoming movies are Rock the Shaadi and Bounty Hunter
Awards Abhay Deol got his very first recognition for the matured and intense portrayal of the struggling writer in Navdeep Singh’s Manorama Six Feet Under in the Indo – American Arts Council Awards and also the Annual Central European Bollywood Awards and thus shot into international acclaim. Abhay Deol got his next set of Awards in 2010 for his stellar performances in movies like Oye Lucky ! Lucky Oye! , Dev.D like the Big Star Entertainment Awards and went on to receive his very first Filmfare Awards in 2012 for Zindagi Na Milegi Dobara along with the IIFA Awards. Abhay Deol also won the Producers Guild Film Awards in best actor in a supporting role category in 2013.
Other works Abhay Deol also served as the playback singer for the famous song “Senorita“from Zindagi Na Milegi Dobara which became a chartbuster. Abhay Deol has also served as the co-producer of some of his films too in the short career.
Milestones Abhay Deol is an actor who has had the chance to excel both in commercial and art house cinema initiatives at the same time. Deol has established himself as one of the most promising actors of Bollywood in a short career  completing his eleventh year in Hindi cinema in 2016. Abhay Deol is said to have appeared in several magazines on their cover . The magazines included the Man’s World and the Time Out Mumbai for which his photograph titled as the ‘ New face of the Indian Cinema’.   In 2009 Abhay Deol was included in the list of  Zoom’s 50 most desirable Hotties and he was placed seventh in the top 50.     He has learnt the Israeli Martial art called the Krav Maga.
