Azhar, played by Emraan Hashmi is born in Hyderabad. He fulfills his grandfather’s last wishes by playing in the Indian team selection match and eventually getting selected. He manages to score 3 centuries consequently in his very first 3 test innings. His talent impresses everyone and is considered a hero overnight.

Inspite of Azhar loosing the match against Pakistan in the 1991, the President of the Cricket Board decides to make him the captain of the Indian team. Senior players like Navjot, Manoj and Ravi get upset with his appointment but Kapil supports this decision.

Azhar gets married to Naureen, played by Prachi Desai but during an ad shoot he meets Bollywood actress Sangeeta, played by Nargis Fakhri and falls in love with her. She is hesitant of the union due to him being married but he still pursues her. Naureen is shattered to hear this and divorces Azhar and he marries Sangeeta.

Azhar lives a very lavish life and this attracts the match-fixers and bookies. M.K Sharma, based in London offers him 1 Crore to underplay in the match against Sri Lanka, which is accepted by him but hesitantly. Meanwhile allegations of match fixing are leveled against him by slapping a lifetime ban on him. He challenges it in court saying he took the money to keep him away from the rest of the teammates but after scoring a successful inning he returned the money. In the final courts verdict Azhar is proved innocent and the life-ban is lifted.

Azhar is directed by Anthony D’Souza and produced by Shobha & Ekta Kapoor and Sony Pictures Networks. The music is composed by Amaal Mallik and Pritam.
