Synopsis

Black is a 2005 film directed by Sanjay Leela Bhansali starring Rani Mukherji and Amitabh Bachchan. Black revolves around a young girl who is deaf and blind and her relationship with her teacher who later develops Alzheimer’s disease. The film is inspired from Helen Keller’s life and struggles and is a remake of the film produced in Turkey by the name of Benim Dunyam. Based in Simla, the story is about the young woman Michelle, an Anglo Indian who is born deaf, dumb and blind. Her family hire a teacher Debraj Sahai, who comes into their lives and brings a ray of hope into her dark world. Though her teacher is eccentric and an alcoholic he brings out the best in her and at the age of 40 she succeeds in graduating in Arts. The story is about the bond between the dumb, deaf and blind girl and her teacher, their relationship.
