Bobby is a musical romance film directed by Raj Kapoor and story written by Khwaja Ahmad Abbas. The film is a debut of Rishi Kapoor in an adult role. His earlier role a child artist was in Mera Naam Joker.  Starring with him in the film is Dimple Kapadia who also did her debut title role as Bobby.

The film was a superhit and a biggest blockbuster of 1973 and the second highest grossing film at the box office.  It is said to have drawn a 62.6 million viewers, making it among the top 20 biggest hits in Soviet Union as well.

The film became a trend setter for teenage love stories and between a rich and the poor.    The story is about two two Mumbai teenagers who come from a different background and religion.   Rishi Kapoor as Raj Nath comes from a business class rich background and is son of the Industrialist businessman Pran.  While Dimple Kapadia as Bobby Braganza is the daughter of a poor Goan Christian Fisherman Jack Braganza essayed by Prem Nath

When young Raj returns from his boarding school his parents throw a party to welcome him home on his birthday. His governess Mrs. Braganza come also comes to greet him on his birthday with her young very pretty granddaughter Bobby Braganza who Raj notices in the party.  He decides to go and meet his governess at her small home in the fishing village and is welcomed by Bobby.  He falls in love with her and he follows her to her college from where their romance begins.  The lovers meet often and their innocent love blossoms and gets noticed by his parents. While the fisherman has no objection to his daughter meeting the rich boy Raj, his father decides to get him married to his business partner’s mentally challenged daughter essayed by Farida Jalal. He also insults Premnath and the two families become enemies.  Raj and Bobby decide to elope and run away from the house to find their true love for each other.. They come across many obstacles during their journey and also get noticed by the goons as his father has kept a huge ransom to bring them back home. 

Ultimately Love triumps over everything else, both the parents want their children to be happy and accept each other’s kids to unite with their blessings.
