“Dry Day” is a 2023 Hindi-language comedy-drama film directed by Saurabh Shukla and produced by Nikkhil Advani under Emmay Entertainment. The movie stars Jitendra Kumar, Shriya Pilgaonkar, and Annu Kapoor in prominent roles. It revolves around the life of “Gannu”, a free-spirited drunkard from a small town, whose life turns upside down when his wife announces she will abort the child if he does not give up alcohol. Deadly determined to succeed, he pledges to abstain from food until liquor is outlawed in his town.

Despite his alcohol-habituated past and association with influential local politician “Dauji”, Gannu's protest attracts unexpected backing from women, particularly, who are fed up with the drinking behavior of their husbands. Yet, his toughest battle is not resisting the system but resisting his personal addiction and withdrawal symptoms as well. Once he emerges as the movement's face, Dauji and his friends attempt to discredit his cause for fear of losing their grip on power and commerce.

Jitendra Kumar is excellent as Gannu, bringing humor and pathos to his pursuit of change. The first half of the film traces his goofy but abortive attempts at joining politics with the help of his similarly illiterate friends. But once the story gets under way, the narrative settles down, moving from light comedy towards a darker and more emotional drama. With its interesting characters, social commentary, and humorous dialogue, “Dry Day” is an enjoyable but not least, a cerebral exploration of addiction and change.
