Ranjit Singh is brought up with discipline and moral values, thus he is intolerant towards injustice to anyone. He is a rebel who fights anyone that is wrong. The Thakur and his family rule the village. The Thakur’s two sons who are of Ranjit’s age bully him and always get into a fight with him. Unable to bear the injustice and caste prejudices that prevail in the village, Ranjit decides to go to the city to complete his studies. After a few years he gets a telegram that his father has passed away and he must do the last rites. When Ranjit comes back he notices that things are just the same and nothing has changed in people’s midsets. Turns out, Ranjit’s father had taken loans from the Thakurs to pay for his medicines and treatment which he must now repay. Ranjit is of the opinion that the farmers work hard to produce crop on a land owned by the landlords. The money taken as a loan must therefore not be repaid. He storms into the Thakur’s house and challenges him to take over his land if he dares to. The Thakur’s daughter Sumitra is impressed by his courage and falls in love with him. Meanwhile his village friend Moran is attacked by the Thakur’s men and he rescues her by marrying her. Sumitra is heartbroken and marries a ruthless cop her father selects. The cop Sultan Singh comes to know of the love his wife had for Ranjit and joins forces with Thakur’s brothers to kill Ranjit. There is bloodshed on both sides.
