Hawa Singh is one of the upcoming movies of the biographical-drama genre. This new film’s story follows the life of Hawa Singh Sheoran, a young man from Umarvas village in Haryana who joins the Indian Army at 19 years old in 1956, and discovers a natural talent for boxing. In 1960, he defeated the defending Western Command champion Mohabbat Singh, marking the start of his meteoric rise. Over the next decade (1961–1972), he dominated national boxing, winning eleven consecutive heavyweight national titles, a record that still stands by his name.
Also, he makes waves on the international stage, winning back-to-back gold medals at the Asian Games in Bangkok in 1966 and 1970, achievements unmatched by any Indian boxer. In recognition of his sporting excellence, he received the Arjuna Award in the year 1966.
After retiring from competitive boxing in the early 1980s, Hawa Singh co-founded the Bhiwani Boxing Club, which later became a cradle of Indian boxing and produces champions, including Olympic bronze medalist Vijender Singh.
In 1999, he was announced as a recipient of India’s prestigious Dronacharya Award for coaching, but he passed away on August 14, 2000, just days before the honour was conferred. Hawa Singh is one of the upcoming movie releases that has shed light on the life of a sportsman and his determination and hard work towards the game.
