Razakar: The silent Genocide of Hyderabad (2024) is an epic historical action drama by director Yata Satyanarayana. It features Raj Arjun, Bobby Simha, Anasuya Bharadwaj and Vedhika. The documentary tells the most significant post-Independence story of the struggle to incorporate Hyderabad into India and the hardships faced by the leader of the Razakar militia, Qasim Razvi (Raj Arjun), as well as Sardar Vallabhbhai Patel (Tej Sapru), who led the Indian Army in Operation Polo to quash the violence in Hyderabad and annex Hyderabad to the Indian Union.
In 1947, after India had gained independence, the princely state of Hyderabad, governed by a Nizam, did not agree to join the Indian Union. The Nizam facilitated a private militia, the Razakars, led by Qasim Razvi, at the expense of the Hindu population in Hyderabad, to keep the princely state independent and to violently oppose joining India. The Razakars terrorised and targeted the local Hindu population to instil fear and induce suffering. As the hardships progressed, the Indian government intervened.
In 1948, when the Indian government, led by Sardar Vallabhbhai Patel, chose to liberate Hyderabad, they ordered Operation Polo. Following a brief period of military operations, the Indian forces ultimately triumphed over the Razakars and ended the Nizam's control, thus annexing Hyderabad to India. The documentary illustrates these events, the bravery of the common man and the brutality of the Razakars and the resolve of the Indian leadership to safeguard the nation. The documentary ends positively with the successful Annexation of Hyderabad, as peace had been restored to the territory.
Razakar: The Silent Genocide of Hyderabad, released in theatres and on online streaming platforms on 26th April 2024, depicts a lesser-known story in Indian history and offers a rich viewing experience. The performances are phenomenal, especially by Raj Arjun as Qasim Razvi and Tej Sapru as Sardar Vallabhbhai Patel, and each performance offers potent and visceral historical drama. People should watch this movie for its emotional resonance, storytelling power and the opportunity to learn about the sacrifices of India's integration. It is valuable for reasons other than entertainment. It is also a historic film and won the Feature Film on Environment, Heritage, and History at the Telangana Gaddar Film Awards 2024.
