"Simla Special" is a comedy Tamil film from 1982, directed by Muktha Srinivasan. It stars Kamal Haasan, S. Ve. Shekher, Sripriya and Thengai Srinivasan. The movie is about two friends, Gopu and Babu, who run a comedy theatre troupe. As Babu was in a financial crisis, they took a commission to perform for Tamil people living in Shimla.

Gopu is a passionate theatre artist who, along with his close friend Babu, runs a small but popular comedy troupe. They earn their living by performing low-budget plays. To help Babu pay for his sister’s wedding, they accept a job to perform for Tamil audiences in Simla. One of their plays, called Simla Special, is written by Mahalakshmi. While performing in Simla, Babu gets a telegram meant for Gopu, informing him that Gopu’s mother is very sick. Worried that quitting would mean losing the money needed for the wedding, Babu hides the news from Gopu.

In time, Gopu learns from another friend about his mother's sickness. However, he still wants to continue doing the shows to help out Babu's family. He did not tell Babu he was aware because he didn't want to have to leave. On their last day of performing, Gopu searches through Babu's coat and gets angry when he finds the telegram. He feels betrayed and thinks Babu should have told him. He ends his friendship with Babu, but agrees to play one last show. During the show, Babu thinks he gets the news that Gopu's mother is doing better. Gopu is greatly relieved and ecstatic and tells Babu he led him on. The two friends embrace.

Timely comedy, "Simla Special" is a fun movie that delivers a combination of humour and emotional scenes, capturing friendship and sacrifice. Humour in performances and the screenplay will make audiences laugh from start to finish. The story provides the best of both worlds with moments of light-heartedness and emotion, reminding all friends of the importance of trust and understanding. Overall, if you love Tamil cinema, then this movie is a classic and will provide good fun and enjoyment.
