Theeran Adhigaram Ondru

"Theeran Adhigaaram Ondru" (2017) is a Tamil action thriller film directed by H. Vinoth. Starring Karthi, Rakul Preet Singh, and Abhimanyu Singh. Based on the true "Bawaria" dacoit gang that terrorised Tamil Nadu during the late 1990s, it is about a dogged police officer taking charge of a special unit to track down a brutal gang over a few states.

In 1995, Theeran Thirumaran (Karthi) tops his police academy course and comes back home to Thanjavur to get married to his neighbour Priya (Rakul Preet Singh). When a family is brutally killed by highway dacoits, Theeran is assigned to probe. With Inspector Sathya (Abhimanyu Singh), he follows threads of evidence of an organized gang. Through initial frustrations, leads gone cold, unsupportive seniors, and a second brutal MLA murder, the two refuse to give up. By 2003, they track fingerprints to a Rajasthan jail and establish a special task force. When the gang attacks again, killing Sathya's wife and putting Priya in a coma, Theeran pledges personal revenge.

Theeran and his colleagues bivouac in the dry Rajasthan countryside, following clues in the robbers' hometown villages. The villagers deny having sheltered the criminals, but Theeran's determination comes in handy as he tracks down most of the gang members. In a fraught raid, the officers disarm the majority of the criminals, but the cunning head, Oma (Abhimanyu Singh), manages to evade capture. A final desert sand chase culminates in a vicious hand-to-hand battle, where Theeran apprehends Oma and brings him to justice. In the film's final frame, which is set in the present, Theeran works in a modest traffic post, his integrity and single-minded commitment keeping him below the radar until his former colleague Sathya and their chief archivist reward his remarkable service.

"Theeran Adhigaaram Ondru" serves up edge-of-your-seat tension rooted in real-life events. Karthi infuses quiet intensity and moral toughness into Theeran, and Rakul Preet Singh brings heartbreaking vulnerability to Priya's situation. H.
