Synopsis

Mahadev, played by Shreyas Talpade is a happy go lucky guy who aspires to be novelist some day. For the time being he writes letters for the illiterate villagers of Sajjanpur village and earns their goodwill. Earlier the villagers came to his house to get letters written but after his mother’s opposing, the sets up a small workspace bear the post office. His work truly becomes a marvel when an aunt who writes a letter to her son who is disrespecting her, truly gets reformed. Word spreads on what a great writer Mahadev is. Meanwhile Mahadev has a crush on his childhood friend Kamla, played by Amrita Rao. She comes to him to write letters to her husband Bansi Ram, who works in Mumbai as a laborer. Mahadev however, doesn’t write exactly what she tells him, instead he shows no love in them and reads back his reply in his own version to her. Later Mahadev realizes that how much Bansi loves Kamla and eventually moves out of their way. He helps many villagers with her beautiful letter writing skills and evertually writes his own novel. The movie is directed by Shyam Benegal and produced by Ronnie Screwvala and Chetan Motiwalla. The music is composed by Shantanu Moitra.
