Veteran actor and filmmaker Anupam Kher’s directorial venture, Tanvi The Great, will have its North American premiere at the 25th edition of the New York Indian Film Festival (NYIFF) on June 19, 2025. This redcarpet premiere comes on the heels of the film’s world debut at the Cannes Film Festival’s Marché du Film section, where it received rave reviews for its emotional impact and gripping storytelling. Tanvi The Great beautifully narrates the intense journey of Tanvi Raina, an autistic teenager who bravely fights against all odds to pay tribute to her father’s, a soldier’s, dream to salute the Indian National Flag at the Siachen Glacier. 

Anupam Kher’s Film Heads to NYIFF

The film stars a brilliant ensemble cast including Shubhangi Dutt as Gaal, Anupam Kher, Iain Glen, Jackie Shroff, Boman Irani, Arvind Swami, Pallavi Joshi, Karan Tacker and Nassar. Along with its majestic cinematography, the film’s score, Academy Award winner M.M. Keeravani, and sound design by Oscar-winning Resul Pookutty deepen the cinematic experience. Inspired by Kher’s own niece, the film is made by Kher’s own production house, Anupam Kher Studios, in partnership with the National Film Development Corporation of India (NFDC).

After Cannes, the film to screen on June 19

After its NYIFF screening, Tanvi The Great will take the next steps on its global journey with upcoming screenings in London and Los Angeles as it seeks to find audiences around the world. The movie is currently set for wide release on July 18, 2025.
