Anupam Kher had found his leading lady, Shubhangi Dutt, during his master class at his acting school, Actor Prepares. The film was announced last year in March, and then kept its lead actress away from the limelight. After a year, he finally unveiled her face at the pre-release event of the film.

Shubhangi Dutt, with the film Tanvi: The Great, will be making her debut in Bollywood. Tanvi, who represents the innocent, charming and pure look, Anupam Kher was sure to pick up one of his students from his school, Actor Prepares. But it was still not an easy idea. The veteran actor filmmaker expressed the thought of making the film came up four years back, but it was difficult for him to find the right person to essay the role of Tanvi.

She was chosen after months of auditioning for the right candidate for the film. The role was inspired by Kher’s niece. Shubhangi prepared for the role by spending a lot of time with the real Tanvi in Assam, which gave her an insight into autism. The film features music by M.M. Keeravani, lyrics by Kausar Munir

The film that is helmed and produced by Anupam Kher was presented at the world premiere at the Cannes Film Festival as a part of the Marche du Film in London and New York, as well as in India’s NDA. The film is released in theatres on 18th July 2025.

Besides the film, Tanvi: The Great, Shubhangi has featured in interviews on Radio Nasha, wherein she spoke about her journey and preparation. She has also been promoting the film, which was released early this month, and has received praises from stalwarts of the Bollywood Industry, Shah Rukh Khan and Amitabh Bachchan. Shubhangi continues to stay focused with her film acting career and is open to accepting more challenging roles that may come her way, and has her values firmly grounded in reality.
