Ashley Rebello Reveals Why He Tweaked Yami Gautam’s Wardrobe In HAQ

In an exclusive update, ace designer Ashley Rebello has revealed the creative thought and challenges that went into fine-tuning Yami Gautam’s wardrobe for her upcoming film HAQ. Known for his commitment to detail and authenticity, Rebello shared that he had to make specific tweaks to Yami’s costumes to ensure the character’s look felt natural, rooted and visually compelling on screen.

Rebello explained that one of the significant changes he made involved the use of vegetable dyes. ‘I had to use vegetable dyes,’ he shared, emphasizing that the film demanded an earthy, organic aesthetic that conventional dyes could not replicate. The goal was to keep the costumes as close as possible to the world of the film, which is deeply connected to realism and subtlety.

The designer also highlighted that working with vegetable dyes required careful experimentation since the shades can shift during the dyeing process and even under different lighting conditions. However, he felt the effort was worth it for the authenticity it brought to Yami’s character.

Yami Gautam, known for her strong performances and natural screen presence, is expected to bring depth to HAQ, while Rebello’s meticulous styling adds another layer of credibility to the narrative. The collaboration has already sparked excitement among fans awaiting the film’s release.
