Starring in the film are Sivakarthikeyan, Ravi Mohan, Atharvaa and Sreeleela in the Tamil debut. Starring alongside are Dev Ramnath, Prithvi Rajan, Guru Somasundaram, Basil Joseph and Papri Ghosh in the supporting roles. 

The story follows, the 1965 Anit Hindu agitation in Tamil Nadu and the two brothers who participated. The Tamil language historical and political action drama is directed by Sudha Kongara and is being produced by Aakash Bhaskaran of Dawn Pictures. 

Director Sudha Kongara calls herself a big fan of Vijay. 

Sudha Kongara reacts to Jana Nayagan’s censor delay.  Sudha has now reacted to the situation and has expressed her disappointment over the dealy in Jana Nayagan’s release , while she also made it clear she is one of his biggest fans. 

The Supreme court was to hear Vijay’s Jana Nayagan producer’s plea on January 19th amidst the battle with the Central Board of Film Certification (CBFC), as Vijay’s film continues to face certification hurdles with the CBFC.

Jana Nayagan  had fallen into trouble before its theatrical release. 

The film was initially scheduled for its release on the 9th January 2026, the film has been indefinitely delayed due to censorship issues that have surrounded the film. 

The film stars Vijay, Pooja Hegde, Boby Deol and Mamitha Baiju alongside of Gautham Vasudev Menon , Prakash Raj , Narain and Priyamani.  The film is a remake of 2023 Telugu film Bhagavanth Kesari and his last film of Vijay before his entry into politics and happens to be KVN Productions first production in Tamil. 

The film was officially announced in September 2024 under the tentative title Thalapathy 69, as it is Vijay's 69th film as a lead actor, and the official title was announced in January 2025. Principal photography commenced in October 2024 in Chennai continued by a schedule in Payanoor, which was again followed by two additional schedules also held at the former location, and wrapped by August 2025. The film has music composed by Anirudh Ravichander, cinematography handled by Sathyan Sooryan and editing by Pradeep E. Ragav.

The film had ran into trouble with the Central Board of Film Certification even before its release. The CBFC directed multiple cuts and modification to the dialogues and the visuals that seemed politically provocative.  The same had triggered intense debates across political and cultural cinematic circles.   The film has touched a sensitive chord of the Tamil Nadu’s history . The disputes had surrounded once again which had raised questions on the censorship, leading to the historical accuracy and thus increased the motivation to buy the big-ticket release. 

Initially Sudha and Suriya were set to collaborate after the 2020 Soorarai Pottru project , tentatively was titled Suriya 43 which was announced in 2023 October but later the project was shelved . However, Sudha’s had revived the script with Sivakarthikeyan and announced the project in December 2024 .  The official title was announced the following month un the tentative title SK25. Principal photography commenced the same month and was wrapped by October 2025 taking place in Chennai, Karaikudi, Colombo, Madurai , Chidambaram and Pollachi . The film music has been composed by G V Prakash Kumar and the cinematography is handled by Ravi K Chandran .   

There were rumors revolving around the rights over the financing of the film and also for the  Plagiarism allegations which was sorted out and finally got its release date on 10th January 2026 during the Pongal week which had further received mix reviews.
