The Malayalam courtroom drama JSK Janaki Vs State of Kerala, starring Suresh Gopi and Anupama Parameswaran, has finally received a new release date of July 18 after being delayed due to a legal dispute. The Central Board of Film Certification had raised objections to the original title, Janaki Vs State of Kerala, claiming that the use of the name Janaki could be interpreted as a reference to Goddess Sita, which was deemed inappropriate for a rape survivor character.

Censor board objections resolved

The filmmakers approached the Kerala High Court, which questioned the censor board’s authority to object to character names. Following the court’s intervention, the makers agreed to revise the title to JSK Janaki vs. State of Kerala by adding the character’s initials. Minor edits were also made to two scenes in the film.

Film to hit theatres after censor board clearance

The High Court directed the CBFC to issue the certificate within three days of submission. With the revised title and necessary changes completed, the film is now set for a July 18 theatrical release.
