“My Films Are For Theatres” - Boney Kapoor, As He Reconstructs The Maidaan Set For The Third Time

In the aftermath of the cyclone Tauktae, there has been immense loss of property and life in India. Amidst this the Ajay Devgn starrer Maidaan film set was badly rummaged too. Producer Boney Kapoor hasn’t given up hope though. He has now decided to reconstruct the set of his ambitious project for the third time. Telling us what happened the first two times, he says, “We had to dismantle the set for the first time when the first lockdown happened, we had to reconstruct the set again and if the lockdown had not happened we would've completed the shooting of the film.” The second lockdown too called for dismantling of the set unfortunately.

 

Speaking of already having spent 22 crores on the film Kapoor reveals, “The entire set is gone except the pitch. Though the pitch, too, has suffered some damage, the curator has assured us that he will manage to salvage it. But we have already incurred an expense of Rs 30cr and work is still pending.” The producer is quick to rubbish rumours of a digital release saying, “My films are for theatres and we have already started the post-production of the film and are aiming to release it in cinema halls.” Maidaan is based on the life of late football coach Syed Abdul Rahim and Ajay Devgn will essay his role.
