Twelve years after its original release, the cult romantic drama Raanjhanaa is set to return to the big screen on August 1—but with a twist. The climax of the film, which gave Dhanush his breakthrough in Bollywood, has reportedly been changed using artificial intelligence. This unexpected update has sparked major controversy, especially with director Anand L Rai openly expressing his anger at the decision.

Raanjhanaa’s Re-release Sparks Controversy Over Changed Ending

Rai, who also co-produced Raanjhanaa under his Colour Yellow Productions banner, revealed that he was not consulted before the change was implemented. He has criticised the move, calling it an insult to the creativity of the original team.

Anand L Rai Says Creativity Tampered For Profit

Calling the situation a 'lesson' for all filmmakers, Anand L Rai said, 'A studio, just to earn a few crores, won't hesitate to tamper with the creativity of a writer, director, and actor. This has taught me to be more cautious in the future.'

Meanwhile, Anand L Rai is now focused on directing the film’s spiritual sequel, Tere Ishq Mein, starring Dhanush and Kriti Sanon. The film is scheduled to hit theatres in November 2025.
