Remembering Veteran Actor Vikram Gokhale On His Birth Anniversary

Veteran actor Vikram Gokhale left the stage of life on 26 November 2022. Today we celebrate his 76th birth anniversary. Vikram Gokhale has been a significant part of Indian theatre for decades; he has done some notable work in the Hindi and Marathi theatre industries. Rather than theatres, Mr Gokhale has made his mark in TV as well as the movie industry.

The acclaimed actor comes from a family where acting runs in their blood. His great-grandmother Durgabai Kamat was the first female actor on the Indian screen, and grandmother Kamalabai Gokhale was the first female child actor in the history of Indian cinema.  Whereas his father Chandrakant Gokhale was a Marathi theatre and film performer, The Gokhale has made a noteworthy contribution to the history of the Indian entertainment industry.

Vikram Gokhale has given many outstanding performances in his career. May it be in Marathi movies or Hindi some of his characters have carried an aura left by him behind. Let's look back at some of his best performances:

Virrudh: The television series Virrudh which ran for a year on the Sony channel. Vikram Gokhale played a father to Smriti Irani in Virrudh. The core story of his character revolved around politics and media. His portrayal of Dhirendra Raisinghania was appreciated by many in the industry.

Hum Dil De Chuke Sanam: Vikram Gokhale played the Indian classical music guruji in this Sanjay Leela Bhansali movie. The movie also featured big names such as Salman Khan, Aishwarya Rai, and Ajay Devgn. Gokhale plays an antagonist in the movie.

Natsamrat: One of the classic movies in the history of Marathi cinema. Natsamrat revolves around a  retired theatre actor, Appa, played by Nana Patekar. Natsamrat stars Vikram Gokhale as Rambhau Appa’s dearest friend. He received much acclaim for his portrayal of Rambhau.

Aaghaat: Marked as Vikram Gokhale’s debut in the field of direction Aaghaat is a Marathi movie that came out in 2010. Gokhale played the role of senior Dr Khurana works in big private hospitals.

The actor has acted in more than 80 movies and TV shows. His legacy of acting has stayed in the hearts of his admirers for decades and it will continue even after the end of an era of this legendary actor.
