Known to have debuted in the iconic film Umrao Jaan, veteran actress Farrukh Jaffar is no more. She was last seen in the Amitabh Bachchan, Ayushmann Khurrana starrer Gulabo Sitabo. The talented actress passed away on Friday in Lucknow at the age of 88. Her eldest daughter Mehru Jaffar had previously said, “She was admitted to the hospital on October 4 due to breathlessness. She was not well. Her lungs were unable to take the oxygen that had been given to her. She passed away in the evening at around 6 pm.”


Farrukh was the wife of journalist-politician Syed Muhammad Jaffar. She started her career as a one of the first radio announcers of Vividh Bharti Lucknow in 1963. She has appeared in notable films like the 2004 Shah Rukh Khan-starrer 'Swades', Aamir Khan’s Peepli Live and Amitabh Bachchan starrer Gulabo Sitabo. She also essayed the role of Nawazuddin Siddiqui's grandmother in 'Photograph’. 


Screenwriter Juhi Chaturvedi of Gulabo Sitabo payed her last respects to the talented actress writing, “Begum is gone Farrukh ji, there was no one, and there will be no one like you.
