The 16 Acre Set Of Ajay Devgn's Maidaan Is Dismantled In Mumbai, Says Producer Boney Kapoor

Past three months have shown us the major standstill and the worst effects that nobody had ever expected. Due to the covid 19 lock down, film releases and shoots are at halt and postponed knowing not when they will resume further. A high maintenance set for the Ajay Devgn starrer Maidaan was built spread in 16 acre wide area in Mumbai. However the set is dismantled owing to Corona Virus pandemic lock down and upcoming monsoon season. The producer Boney Kapoor said that this caused them a massive loss.

Boney Kapoor said, "We built a massive outdoor set covering a 16-acre plot around Mumbai, with all the production infrastructure. Just as the shoot was getting underway, the pandemic hit the world. The set has now been dismantled as rains are due to arrive in Mumbai. The rebuild will take at least two months, which will start in September at the earliest, so shooting can commence only in November."

He also mentioned that the training portions for the film were shot in Lucknow and Kolkata, so they are in can and intact . At least, they won't have to spend again on those sets.

Maidaan is directed by Amit Sharma who directed Badhaai Ho and was supposed to release in November this year. It is a football drama based on the life of a former player, the late Syed Abdul Rahim, who is also regarded as one of the greatest coaches in the sport that India has seen. He managed the Indian national team from 1950 until his death in 1963 and is widely known as the architect of modern Indian football. Few other film sets might get dismantled as well due to high maintenance cost.
