The 72nd National Film Awards celebrated in depth the diversity and artistic flair of the Indian cinema.    The Award function recognized the outstanding films certified in 2024 and this year’s edition . It highlighted a remarkable balance between the high concept of Storytelling, Powerhouse and Character Studies across Pan India’s cinematic reach. 


Among the top awards that headlined the winners are actress Yami Gautam who secured the Best Actress for the lead actor in Article 370 , the hard-hitting political drama, which also bagged the Best Feature Film Award. Yami Gautam for her very intense and commanding performance.    


The Best Actor in the Leading Role was honored to two brilliant performers from two different cinematic realms . 


Mammootty in the black and white folk horror Bramayugam for his chilling portrayal in the Malayalam film earned him his fourth National Award.


Kartik Aaryan earned his first ever National Award for his transformative role in the biographical sports drama, Chandu Champion.




The visual spectacles and directorial excellence awards were won by Rajkumar Periasamy for his direction in the film amaran, the biographical action film honoring the real-life army hero Major Mukund Varadarajan.  


Nag Ashwin’s Sci-fi epic Kalki 2898 AD bagged for the Best Feature Film providing wholesome entertainment for his production design.


Randeep Hooda was recognized for his debut directorial venture for the film Swatantrya Veer Savarkar and Captain Miller, the Tamil actioner was awarded the Best Film Promoting National, Social and Environmental Values. 


The evening was further celebrated with Sanjay Mishra taking home the Award for Best Supporting Actor for Bhakshak , with Sukumar winning for Best screenplay for Pushpa 2:The Rule. 


The awards showcased few more regional feature films such as Srikanth in Hindi, Mithya in Kannada, Feminischi Fathima in Malayalam and Taayan in Tamil . It reflected the richness of storytelling across Pan India language borders that thrived on these kinds of super films.
