The much-anticipated SS Rajamouli project, earlier known as GlobeTrotter, was officially unveiled as Varanasi at a spectacular launch event in Hyderabad. The grand evening brought together an extraordinary lineup of stars including Mahesh Babu, Priyanka Chopra, Prithviraj Sukumaran and composer MM Keeravaani, with thousands of fans in attendance.
Rajamouli revealed a dramatic first-look motion poster featuring Mahesh Babu racing forward with a trident on a charging bull. The filmmaker described Varanasi as an ambitious time-travel adventure rooted in mythology, promising a cinematic experience unlike anything seen before.
Mahesh Babu received thunderous applause as he took the stage, marking one of his most significant collaborations yet. Priyanka Chopra spoke warmly about joining the project and praised Mahesh as a legendary figure, adding that the team made Hyderabad feel like home.
Prithviraj humorously recalled the intense and physically demanding shoot, calling it a challenging but unforgettable journey. Meanwhile, MM Keeravaani confirmed that the film is slated for a summer 2027 release.
The event also saw Rajamouli address concerns over an unauthorised drone incident during teaser testing, emphasising the team’s focus on maintaining secrecy.
With its scale, cast and vision, Varanasi is already shaping up to be one of Indian cinema’s most awaited films.
