HAQ draws from Jigna Vora’s book Bano: Bharat ki Beti and fictionalizes events that sparked debates on personal law versus secular law, a conversation that remains as relevant today as it was four decades ago. The film questions whether justice should be equal for all and if it is time for a Uniform Civil Code (UCC).
Yami Gautam plays a resilient Muslim woman fighting for her rights under Section 125, while Emraan Hashmi essays the role of a celebrated lawyer. The drama unfolds as a love story that evolves into a high-stakes legal battle, highlighting issues of faith, identity, and justice.
