Leila (2019)

Aryavarta is a state that is governed by strict control and different communities are segregated based on their communities. Shalini is one such individual living a seemingly happy life with husband Rizwan and their young daughter Leila. One fateful day everything changes for the worse when a bunch of men barge into their home, where Leila was swimming in their pool. They accuse the couple of wasting water in their swimming pool. They shoot Rizwan dead while take away Shalini. She has no idea what has happened of Leila. Shalini is put in a remand home where women who have ‘sinned’ and wasted nature’s resources. The women after a few days are tested for their purity, failing which they will be sent to a labor camp, after which they will never see their families ever again. Shalini however does not give up the idea of finding her daughter Leila. The series is directed by Deepa Mehta, Shankar Raman and Pawan Kumar. The star cast includes Huma Qureshi, Siddharth, Seema Biswas, Rahul Khanna, Sanjay Suri.
