Utkarsh has done his schooling at the prestigious Jamnabai Narsee School, Mumbai, Maharashtra, Bachelors at of Fine Arts in Production and Direction /Method from the Lee Strasberg Theatre & Film Institute also studied at the, Chapman University in Orange, California. Utkarsh is an actor and a writer.

Utkarsh has a high regard for his director father who he says has never taken off his hat at home.  A truthful and honesty to the core , his father gave him tips how to be a good actor .Though he was never pressurized by his father, he was a task master and didn’t let emotions come in between them in the professional life together when they were together in the films , he in the role of an actor while his father was the director of the film.

Utkarsh Sharma faced the camera as a child artist in the blockbuster film titled Gadar- Ek Prem Katha in 2001 directed by his father. He acted as Jeetey in which Sunny Deol/Ameesha Patel were in lead roles as his parents.

 

As an adult he did his debut in the films as a lead actor in the film Genius released in August 2018, opposite Ishita Chauhan and acts as a talented orphan from Mathura, Gujarat.  The film is directed by his father Anil Sharma and stars veteran actors like Nawazuddin Siddiqui and Mithun Chakraborty. It was commercially successful. The film also has Ayesha Jhulka who returned on the big screen after a long gap.  The romantic song with vocals by Himesh Reshmamiya, and written by Shabbir Ahmed Tujhse Kahan Juda Hoon Main featured the lead pairs Utkarsh and Ishit striked the right chord among the audience who loved the pair .

 

He was a writer and a director of his film, Purpose released in 2015, set in the Peshawar School Massacre

 

In the film Still Life released in 2016, directed by Tushar More, Utkarsh Sharma was the writer of the film on a young woman who is determined to get into her dream art school but an alcoholic suicidal neighbor, a painter himself is all set to teach her art that she cannot learn in the school. The film starred Al Bernstein and Dakota Gorman.
