1983 Bollywood Classic 'Coolie' Starring Amitabh Bachchan, Rishi Kapoor, And Rati Agnihotri

Coolie the 1983 film is an action comedy drama directed by Manmohan Desai and written by Kader Khan. The film starring AmitabhBachchan as Iqbal Aslam Khan essays a role of a railway coolie. He is in search for his mother Salma essayed by Waheeda Rehman and is in the captivity of Zafar essayed by Kader Khan. She has a son Sunny essayed by late Rishi KapoorThe female pivotal roles are played by Rati Agnihotri, Shoma Anand, Puneet Issar and Suresh Oberoi.




The film went on to be the highest grossing film that year with the highest revenue generated which made over 10 million per territory. The film also had its very infamous fight scene by Amitabh Bachchan and Puneet Israr which was nearly fatal for Amitabh Bachchan when he got injured during the fight sequence. In the actual script Amitabh Bachchan dies but due to the nearly fatal accident in real life and the impact it had on his fans worldwide, the director changed  the last scene and it was modified end with the hero of the film recovering after a surgery. Which was also the true story as Amitabh Bachchan nearly lost his life in this tragic accident but recovered and continued the film to complete it after a couple of months.




The story is about a young boy Iqbal who is separated from his mother and his younger brother in a flood., Iqbal essayed by Amitabh Bachchan grows up to become a coolie at the Mumbai Railway Stations..The bottom line of the story is that the coolies are very badly treated by and have no rights to live a decent life and that’s when Iqbal takes it on him to give the coolies their right and fights for it.  

The film had very catchy numbers and till date fans and audience remember the film Coolie which gave a new lease of life to the young Bachchan after the accident during the shooting.
