'Naseeb' Amitabh Bachchan's Thriller Masala Packed Superhit Film

Naseeb which means Destiny is a 1981 thrller masala film produced and directed by Manmohan Desai and the film is written by Kader Khan. Starring in this film are Amitabh Bachchan, Shatrughan Sinha, Rishi Kapoor, Hema Malini, Reena Roy in the pivotal roles.

We once again talk about a film starring Amitabh Bachchan. The film was later made in Tamil and Telugu. Amitabh Bachchan and Shatrughan Sinha were simultaneously shooting for two films together that is Naseeb and Dostana both which went on to be much appreciated films. 

Music is by Manmohan Desai with the duo Laxmikant-Pyarelal. The film had other top villains such as Prem Chopra, Shakti Kapoor, Kader Khan, Amjad Khan and Amrish Puri.

Naseeb was a superhit film and a story about four friends Namdev, Raghu, Damu and Jaggi. As they win the lottery after the lottery ticket was sold to them by a drunken man. They pull out lots to enable one of them to keep the lottery ticket.   In the bid to do so, Jaggi gets to keep the ticket and the winning lottery. Now Damu Raghu are upset and kill Jaggi for the lottery money and they frame Namdev falsely. In their fight Namdev who is on the run is thrown off the bridge into the river and is presumed dead.

Twenty years later the stolen money is used by Damu and Raghu to build a grand hotel. They start earning millions and become two successful businessmen. Damu’s youngest son Vicky essayed by Shatrughan Sinha is being sent to England while they also hire Namdev;s  son Johnny essayed by Amitabh Bachchan as the waiter in the hotel owned by them. Both Vicky and Johny by coincidence fall in love with the beautiful singer Ms. Asha essayed by Hema Malini. Reena Roy plays the role of Julie is in love with Vicky. Johny who is also Vicky’s friend sacrifies his love. With Julie they both get together to ensure Vicky finds his Asha, his lady love. Johny has a younger brother by the name of Sunny essayed by Rishi Kapoor. 

The film is a thriller. The film ends with hotel owners meeting the drunk beggar and tell him never to sell his destiny. The film is also based on the honesty, integrity and if one has luck and is destined, he cannot fail to get what is meant to be his. Naseeb with a multi starcast did well for the songs, the locales and the story which is about fate that begins with a lottery ticket and how the lives of the characters who are friends becomes a poignant story on love, friendship, sacrifice and revenge.
