“Chandramukhi 2” is a 2023 Tamil comedy horror film directed and written by P. Vasu and produced by Subaskaran Allirajah under Lyca Productions. The film is a sequel to the classic Chandramukhi, 2005, and features Raghava Lawrence, Kangana Ranaut, and Lakshmi Menon, bringing back the iconic tale with new twists.
The movie is about one such family which suffers from strange events occurring when a woman, "Divya" (Lakshmi Menon), starts showing symptoms of dissociative identity disorder. Her behavior becomes erratic and becomes scary for her family members. In an attempt to solve the mystery, the family consults "Pandiyan" (Raghava Lawrence), a psychiatrist. However, in his efforts to solve the case, he ends up discovering a ghastly link between "Chandramukhi" (Kangana Ranaut) and Vettaiyan Raja, which endangers everyone's lives.
Director P. Vasu binds the sequel back to the original by reintroducing the characters of Vettaiyan and Chandramukhi in new and haunting ways. Raghava Lawrence takes on dual roles as Pandiyan and Sengottaiyan (Vettaiyan Raja), while Kangana Ranaut brings an enigmatic presence as Chandramukhi.
The “Chandramukhi 2”, when released on September 28, 2023, got mixed reviews. As a movie that attempts to blend the elements of horror and psychological thriller with comedy, the movie lacks a defined identity in both the genres according to the critics. However, fans of the original have loved it for nostalgic reasons and good performances.
Now streaming on Netflix, "Chandramukhi 2" is part of the list of movies in 2023 and is a must-watch for horror movie fans and the legacy of Chandramukhi.
