Kangana Ranaut's Bold Take On India's Proposed Renaming As 'Bharat' A Prediction Two Years In The Making

Kangana Ranaut is back in the headlines, this time for weighing in on the hot topic of renaming India as 'Bharat.' The outspoken actress took to social media to share a past interview where she called this change two years ago. Kangana believes the country should ditch the name 'India' and adopt its historical name, 'Bharat.'

In her latest post, she delved into the tangled history of how India got its name, lambasting the anglicized versions of 'Sindhu' into 'Indus' and eventually 'India.' According to her, the name 'Bharat' holds rich cultural and historical significance, originating from the epic Mahabharata, which had kingdoms united under the name 'Bharat.'

The actress went on to question the meaning behind the name 'India,' stating that historically, the term 'Indian' equated to 'slave' in older English dictionaries, a term coined by the British colonizers. She emphasized that "We are Bhartiyas, not Indians."

This public commentary from Kangana comes on the heels of a viral social media post showing an official G20 dinner invite from Rashtrapati Bhavan, where the President is referred to as the 'President of Bharat' instead of 'President of India.' 

On the professional front, Kangana is gearing up for the release of 'Chandramukhi 2,' set to hit theaters on September 19. She's also juggling other projects like 'Emergency' and 'Tejas.'
