Emergency is one of the recently released movies of the biographical-drama genre. This new film’s story mainly revolves around the life of the India’s first female prime minister, Indira Gandhi. Its story is set against the backdrop of the India in the post-independence era. Its story kicks off with the rise of the Congress party, who adventure the landscape of the nation and gradually assert their authority behind perceiving her as a puppet. Her impactful and decisive leadership during the year 1971, wherein the wars between India and Pakistan were escalating, this impacted her nationwide popularity, as at that time, she was in power. Further, the plot reaches a critical turning point in her political career wherein, in the year 1975, the Allahabad High Court’s verdict had invalidated her to stand in for the elections. The decision was given by the government by citing in the perceived threats that threatened to destroy the democracy, and this led her to declare a nation-wide Emergency. In this period, her son, Sanjay Gandhi, acquires an immense influence and begins to implement some controversial programs. Later, after dealing in with some of the pressures to put an end to the prolonged Emergency, she finally concludes the Emergency in the year 1977. This historical moment leads to a defeat for the Congress in the elections and then she ends up being imprisoned. What will happen further? Will Indira Gandhi be able to acquire her vanished political image?
