Cobra

"Cobra" (2022) is a Tamil action thriller movie directed by R. Ajay Gnanamuthu. Vikram plays dual roles with Srinidhi Shetty. The movie is about a mastermind killer who uses mathematical formulas to kill high-profile targets and leaves the world's security agencies perplexed.

Interpol officer Aslan Yilmaz starts to look into the spate of weird killings of dominant leaders, ranging from a Chief Minister in India, a Mayor in France, to a prince in Scotland. He gets the assistance of criminologist Judith Samson, who links the killings to an elusive killer, "Cobra" that seems like a mathematics lecturer.

It is soon discovered that Mathiyazhagan, or "Mathi" (Vikram), a computer expert and the fiancé of Judith's teacher Bhavana, is the individual playing the Cobra role. Mathi operates at the orders of journalist Nellaiappan, who assigns him tasks to eliminate corrupt world leaders. After Mathi accomplishes a risky assassination in Russia, he returns home only to find that Nellaiappan is abducted and he himself becomes a target.

As Mathi solves a cryptic Sudoku puzzle for clues, he discovers that he has a mentally unstable twin brother named Kathirvelan, or "Kathir" (Vikram), whom he holds responsible for the death of his past love, Jennifer. The plot thickens to a climactic showdown, with Aslan and Kathir joining forces to prevent Mathi. Finally, Kathir eliminates the main villain Rajeev Rishi but himself dies of wounds, and Mathi and Bhavana remain weeping.

“Cobra” combines action, emotion, and intellect to provide an enthralling experience. Vikram excels in his double role, particularly in enacting two people who are vastly different from each other. The mathematical theme brings in a fresh touch, although the script gets complicated at times. The emotional foundation and fashionable visuals make Cobra a daring and exciting foray in the action-thriller action movie genre.
