Two clans in the Ranjaar village namely; Rajadi and Sanera have been at loggerheads for over 500 years. The village has been particularly known for sale of arms and ammunition. During an altercation one day between the two, a member of the Sanera fires at a member of the Rajadi’s but his younger brother Ram, played by Ranveer Singh saves him. During the festival of Holi, Ram enters into the Sanera’s celebrations and starts to woo Leela, played by Deepika Padukone.

Leela’s elder brother, gets annoyed at Ram’s entry and asks the cops to raid his house, but later convinces them to leave. In a horrible turn of events, the police kills Ram’s elder brother and in revenge Ram kills the cop. Meanwhile, Ram and Leela develop a romance, thus elope and get married. Just when they begin to settle into a blissful world, Ram’s friends trace his whereabouts and inform Leela’s family. Leela is forcefully taken back by her cousin while Ram is hailed a hero for spoiling the name of the Saneras, and made the chief of Rajadis.

Leela’s mother arranges to get her married to a NRI but Leela shows her that her finger already had Ram’s ring on it. In anger her mother chops off her finger and Ram on hearing this chops his own finger. He visits her while asleep and leaves. Leela sends a message through a widow who gets assaulted and her mother sends her goons to do the same to Ram’s brother’s widow. Both the clans decide never to interact with each other again. In the end sensing of not having a truce between the two tribes, Ram and Leela decide that they are soul mates and shoot each other dead.
