“Hey! Sinamika” is a 2022 Tamil romantic comedy film written and directed by Brinda and produced by Jio Studios and Global One Studios. The film features Dulquer Salmaan as Yaazhan, Aditi Rao Hydari as Mouna, and Kajal Aggarwal as Dr. Malarvizhi. Based on the Argentine movie A Boyfriend for My Wife, this one reverses the roles and adds a new twist to the classic tale.
Based in Kochi and Pondicherry, the novel traces the life of “Yaazhan,” a cheerful and loving software engineer, and “Mouna,” a paleotempestology. They fall in love and marry soon. But two years later, Mouna gets suffocated by Yaazhan's excessively expressive personality and constant availability. In search of space and freedom, she shifts to Pondicherry, seeking a respite. But Yaazhan joins her there too, refusing to let their marriage fail.
To drive him away, Mouna secretly engages Dr. Malarvizhi, a relationship counsellor and their next-door neighbour. Her intention is to make Malar fall for Yaazhan, thus creating a reason for Mouna to seek a divorce. However, things go awry. Malar and Yaazhan develop a good relationship, and Malar gradually falls in love with him. Meanwhile, Yaazhan, kept in the dark about the ruse, discovers newfound meaning in life as a radio jockey.
Hostilities mount as secrets are revealed, and Yaazhan discovers the truth about Mouna's motives. Crushed, he initiates divorce proceedings, surprising both women. Mouna realizes her error, and Malar retreats, realizing Yaazhan's heart remains with Mouna.
“Hey! Sinamika” is an easy-going yet emotional portrayal of marriage, love, and do-overs. Critics enjoy Dulquer's lovable performance as well as Aditi and Kajal's emotional depth. Although the plot is loose in some sections, the message of the movie that relationships matter and one has to respect space emotionally makes Sinamika an endearing movie with heart-stirring sequences.
