Synopsis

“Indian 2” is a Tamil vigilante action thriller film directed by S. Shankar, which is a sequel to the 1996 hit Indian. Kamal Haasan once again plays the role of Senapathy, an old freedom fighter-turned-vigilante, who battles corruption in contemporary India. The movie also features Siddharth, Rakul Preet Singh, and Priya Bhavani Shankar. “Chitra Aravindhan”, a journalist on YouTube, and his friends operate a political satire YouTube channel named Barking Dogs. Their activism is serious when they stumble upon a corruption case surrounding the suicide of a young lady. Finding no change through agitations, they start the Come Back Indian movement, calling for the return of Senapathy. “Senapathy”, in the meantime, is discovered to be in Taipei, operating a martial arts academy. Convinced to come back, he enters India secretly and starts a new movement, leading citizens to reveal corruption within their own families and neighborhoods. Chitra and his friends investigate their own parents and are shocked by what they find. Chitra eventually unmasks his father, “Varadharajan”, a bribe-taking officer, and has him arrested. But the move has tragic fallout: Chitra's mother cannot accept the shame and commits suicide. Guilt, Chitra turns against Senapathy, starting a Go Back Indian campaign that receives huge support. With mounting public anger, Senapathy is pursued by an angry mob and law enforcement. Though skilled in combat, he is finally arrested but accepts “Varma Kalai” as escape. In a last turn of events, he is compelled to cure a paralyzed officer in return for his release. Though “Indian 2” provides intense action and commentary on society, it falters on pacing and overabundant storytelling. The movie in turn establishes Indian 3, hinting at further revelations of Senapathy's backstory and his ongoing battle for justice.
