Postmortem

Under the direction of J. Sasikumar, “ Post Mortem” is a thriller film from Malayalam cinema. Features Prem Nazir, Mammootty, Sukumaran and Swapna. The film follows Aleese Esthappan, who gets pregnant and is found hanged, presumed to have committed suicide, leading to her brother Peter Esthappan attacking the village priest Father James. When Father James is later murdered, his twin brother, Dysp (a police officer), teams up with Peter to unravel the mystery behind both deaths.

Father James, a respected priest, helps Peter Esthappan’s sister Aleese when she gets pregnant by Johnny, the son of wealthy Chakkochen. Peter’s girlfriend, Reethamma, misunderstands a conversation, and tells Peter that Aleese is having an affair with Father James. The next day, Aleese is found hanged. Enraged, Peter attacks Father James, gets arrested, and escapes. Everyone assumes Aleese committed suicide, and she’s buried without an investigation. Later, Father James grows suspicious and asks his twin brother, Dysp, a police officer, to look into it. When Dysp exhumes Aleese’s body for a postmortem, he’s shocked to find Father James’ dead body in the coffin instead, Aleese’s body is missing. Peter becomes the main suspect in both deaths.

Dysp investigates thoroughly and eventually confronts Peter’s brother, Chakkochen. In a fight, Chakkochen is badly injured and confesses: he killed Aleese because he refused to accept a sister-in-law from his "enemy" family (Peter’s side) and discovered her pregnancy. He also killed Father James because he caught the priest with Aleese in the graveyard and silenced him to hide the truth. Once Dysp obtained Chakkochen's confession, Dysp was able to connect the dots and finish solving the case. The mystery is solved: Aleese was murdered, rather than committing suicide, and Father James was murdered to conceal Aleese's murder. Peter will be exonerated and the town will know the true details surrounding the deaths.
