Rajinimurugan (2016)

"Rajini Murugan" (2016) is a Tamil masala comedy by Ponram, who has written and directed the movie. Stars Sivakarthikeyan, Keerthy Suresh, Soori, and Rajkiran, the movie is about a young man who loves to have fun and gets into a series of comic turns and emotional ups and downs in his family life while searching for money and love. Rajini Murugan (Sivakathikeyan) is a free-spirited Madurai youth who passes his days doing nothing with his friend Thotathree (Soori). He sometimes takes food to his dignified grandfather, Ayyankalai (Rajkiran), a rich farmer. The other children and grandchildren of Ayyankalai live abroad and never come to see him. After an astrologer's prophecy that he will become rich and married soon, Rajini Murugan starts wooing his childhood crush, Karthika (Keerthy). Her father, Neelakandan, who was once a good friend of Rajini Murugan's father, Malligarajan, now is against the marriage because of an old misunderstanding. Rajini Murugan even goes to the extent of opening a tea stall outside her home to win her over, but it gets ruined. He then ventures into real estate with Thotathree and becomes involved with a local extortionist, "Ezhrai" Mookan (Samuthirakani), who attempts to cheat him but gets cheated instead. Angered by Rajini Murugan's lack of concentration, Ayyankalai pretends to die to bring the family together and split his wealth. Unexpectedly, Mookan appears, claiming to be another grandson through Ayyankalai’s first wife, leading to a legal dispute over property. The panchayat rules in favour of Ayyankalai and Rajini Murugan, and Mookan receives ₹100,000 in compensation. It is revealed that Mookan staged the drama just to reclaim the same amount he had earlier lost. Meanwhile, Karthika accepts Rajini Murugan’s love, and Neelakandan finally gives his approval. In a twist ending, Ayyankalai discloses that he actually has another grandson, Bosepandi (Sivakarthikeyan dual role) from Varuthapadatha Valibar Sangam, who proposes converting the land into a hotel and having Rajini Murugan run it. "Rajini Murugan" is a light-hearted film filled with colourful characters, comedy, and village charm. Sivakarthikeyan’s comic timing and lively screen presence, combined with Soori’s one-liners, create plenty of laughs. The mix of family drama, romance, and satire on property disputes keeps the story engaging. With catchy music and a festive feel, the film is an enjoyable masala entertainer for the whole family.
