Unnai Ninaithu

“Unnai Ninaithu” (2002) directed by Vikraman. Unnai Ninaithu is a romantic drama film produced in India. It features Suriya, Laila, and Sneha in the lead roles. The film revolves around Radha, the daughter of a hotel manager, who falls in love with Suriya, a handsome receptionist. Their fledgling romance is given a test when Suriya’s ex-girlfriend storms back into his life, rekindling feelings and causing a storm of complications in their relationship.

Surya takes a job as a receptionist in a lodge in Chennai, with his friend Gopi. The lodge may be owned by Surya’s father but it’s under lease due to the father’s bankruptcy. When Radha, the daughter of the lodge’s new supervisor, catches the attention of Surya, he quickly falls in love with her. With Radha’s arrival, Surya is compelled to confess his own past love story to her and let her know the reason for the betrayal, his love for Nirmala, who had once lived in the same house that Radha now inhabits. In turn, Surya helps Nirmala’s family financially and the two young adults fall in love with each other. Unfortunately, Nirmala's parents prefer Surya's friend Selvam, who earns more money, and they encourage Nirmala to marry him.

Surya, heartbroken, spots Selvam with another girl and tells Nirmala, but she misinterprets his warning as the unwanted return of her suitor. After Nirmala moves in with Selvam, he goes on to humiliate her. Surya’s showdown with Selvam goes about as well as can be expected, and Surya gets disowned by Nirmala. Later, when Nirmala is struck by misfortunes, Surya supports her becoming a medical professional, selling his lodge to fund her education expenses. Five years later, Nirmala completes her education and informs Radha of her willingness to marry Surya, but Surya refuses, siding with Radha’s enduring love for him. The narrative ends on a hopeful note of Surya and Radha reuniting.

“Unnai Ninaithu” was a soulful romantic drama that traversed through the themes of love, sacrifice and emotional maturity. With deeply felt performances culminating in a heartbreaking climax, it packs an emotional wallop.
