The movie is based on the life of Bengali Hindu monk Vivekananda, also known as Narendra Nath Datta, from the time of his birth in 1863 until his return to India from the west in 1887. It is a spiritual interpretation of Vivekananda's life. Vivekananda's inner conflicts and inquiries regarding the purpose and veracity of existence are highlighted in the film.
