Bollywood director Kunal Kohli made a niche for himself in the industry with films like the Saif Ali Khan starrer’Hum Tum’, ‘Fanaa’ with Aamir Khan and Hrithik Roshan starrer ‘Mujhse Dosti Karoge’, etc. His type of cinema so far was more restricted to romantic comedies and love stories. But now the talented filmmaker is stepping out of his comfort zone while debuting on the trending OTT platform. He will be directing the mythological series Ramyug based on the age old legendary story of Ramayan. The story has been adapted several times by different filmmakers and now we get to see its modern adaptation soon.

Speaking on his experience Kunal stated, “One has seen Ramayan, read about it in different forms, in the form of Amar Chitra Katha comic, read it as a book, or narrated the story by parents, grandparents, or through TV shows, several times. But every time one hears the story of the Ramayana, you see something else, your takeaway is something else. So, as a filmmaker, I just wanted to give it a new visual experience. The content and the text, of course, are the same; that can't change. But it has been given a different treatment. I think that's bound to happen. Even if the earlier makers of the Ramayana were to remake it today, they would do it differently because now you have better equipment available, more capital. The green screen facilities are better, so it is now easier to make a chariot fly in the sky.” The director adds, “The beauty of the digital space is that it gives you a vast captive audience. But the challenge is that it's a very distracted audience, as they are always on the go. They pick up their phone, watch something, then they read something else, and they put their phone down. You have to make sure they don't.”
