With the budget reportedly skyrocketing to staggering of Rs. 425 crores, with the release planned for 2026, the film is now likely to arrive only in 2027 as the production timeline has been stretched beyond expectations.

The expensive period drama, Love & War was scheduled for 120 days shoot which has already crossed the 175 days with an additional 50 days added to their schedule. The major portions of the film included the three elaborate songs and a grand scale war sequences which is still pending.  The extended timeline will stem down to Sanjay Leela Bhansali’s relentless pursuit of perfection due to which the film has a large-scale battle scene.

Sanjay Leela Bhansali has reportedly self-financed the entire project which has added to the buzz with the main star cast, Ranbir Kapoor, Alia Bhatt and Vicky Kaushal who have chosen not to take any remuneration up front but the three have signed the backend profit sharing deal, betting a huge box office success eventually.

Despite the delays, Love & War secured a significant pre-release revenue, the film has earned over 130 crore through its digital deal with the Netflix and also around 70 to 80 crore from music and satellite rights.

Love & War marks a reunion with Alia Bhatt.

Love & War marks a reunion with Alia Bhatt after the success of Gangubai Kathiawadi and with Ranbir Kapoor after his 2007 Saawariya.   Though Ranbir Kapoor had set some completion time line conditions, the deadlines have since passed.

The journey seems long for its completion with Ranbir Kapoor gearing up for his ongoing project, Ramayana directed by Nitesh Tiwari and is slated for its release in 2026 Diwali. Meanwhile Alia Bhatt is also preparing for her upcoming film Alpha while Vicky Kaushal is yet to announce his next project that he has lined up for while the trio wait for Bhansali’s most ambitious cinematic gamble to unfold for its dynamic release in 2027.
