In addition to acting in films Ranbir Kapoor also supports charities and social causes.
He is the founder of the production company Shuru Productions and is a co-owner of the Indian Super League football team Mumbai City FC.
At the age of 34 years old he has achieved much in life and a lot to his credit as the young Kapoor.
He is the Vice-Captain of the All Stars Football Club, a celebrity football club that raises money for charity.
In March 2013, he played the game to raise funds for the Magic Funds Organization an NGO for underprivileged children .
In 2014 he acquired ownership rights for the Mumbai City FC, the Mumbai based football team of the Indian Super League ,
He announced his participation in 2016 with the Digital Music Company Saayn as a content and Programming adviser.
This year he also featured in a documentary series Girls and Goals to create awareness about and raise funds for the YUWA , an all girls football team in the state of Jharkhand.
Ranbir Kapoor also supports the empowerment of the girl child and is the goodwill ambassador of Shabana Azmi’s Mijwan Welfare Society , an NGO that helps empower women. He is known to support charities, donates money to environmental and water conservations, and has helped to raise funds to donate and save the children at the flood affected households in Uttarkhand.
He joined a campaign to collect donations for the victims of the April 2015 Earthquake .
Ranbir Kapoor was born in one of the first family of Indian Film Industry and is the grandson of Raj Kapoor and Great Grandson of Prithviraj Kapoor .
He has one elder sister Riddhima who is a Fashion and Interior Designer. Ranbir studied in Bombay Scottish School in Mahim. Ranbir faced the spotlight from a young age. He was always the star kid even before he became a star one day.
After completing his Pre-University education in HR College of Commerce and Economics, Ranbir moved to New York city to learn film making and subsequently pursued a course in acting as well from the Lee Strasberg Theatre and Film Institute. In the film school as a part of his training, he directed and starred in two short films entitled Passion to Love and India 1964.
He returned to Mumbai with an experience in film school which inspired him to pursue a career in Bollywood. He started his career with assisting director Sanjay Leela Bhansali for his film Black in 2005. He did all kinds of odd jobs while working for Bhansali with a hope of getting a role in his film .
He had his first relationship with while he was in the 7th grade and suffered with depression at that young age. While filming for Bachna Ae Haseeno in 2008 he started dating his co-star the very pretty Deepika Padukone. Their relation attracted a huge media coverage . However after a year or two the couple broke up on a bad note but later both had resolved the conflict and had moved on with their lives independently .
It has been rumoured that he also had an affair with Katrina Kaif after they acted together in the film Ajab Prem Ki Ghazab Kahani in 2008. A Paparazzi Photographer in Spain spotted them on the beach and published their photograph together. Intially Ranbir denied but later confessed about their relationship but by 2016 it was reported that this relationship had also ended .
In his career in the film industry, he has become one of the most popular celebrities and one of the most handsome actor and the highest paid actor in India. He made his acting debut with the Bhansali’s tragic romantic film Saawariya in 2007 which was a Box office flop but his acting was noticeable and he was nominated for the Filmfare Critics Award for the Best Actor for his performance in three of his films in 2009.
The other two films were Wake Up Sid and Ajab Prem Ki Ghazab Kahani and the drama film Rocket Singh :Sales Man of the Year.
He won two consecutive Best Actor Awards at the Filmfare for portraying a troubled musician in the film Rockstar in 2011 and a deaf and mute man in a comedy role in the film Barfi in 2012.
His film Yeh Jawani Hai Deewani in 2013 is one of the highest grossing Bollywood film which established him as one of the leading Bollywood Actors. However he acted in a few more films thereafter which didn’t do too well at the box office like the film Tamasha a romantic drama which was under performed by him but his role was appreciated.
His sweet looks served him well as a Bollywood leading man.
In 2010 Ranbir Kapoor acted in a big budget political thriller film called Raajneeti and the film had top other actors like Nana Patekar, Ajay Devgn, Arjun Rampal and Manoj Bajpayee, Katrina Kaif and Sarah Thompson. He describes his role in this film as a complex one and considers that as a last film from the lover boy roles that he played earlier. This film outright belonged to Ranbir Kapoor and proved to be a major commercial success with worldwide earnings of over 1.43 billion.
He had also won the third Best Actor nomination at the Filmfare Awards.
In the same year he did more films collaborated with Priyanka Chopra in the film Anjaana Anjaani an intense film with comedy .The film did moderately well but he gained praise for his role from the critics. Followed by his item number in the Children’s film Chillar Party in 2011, he took on to the powerful role of a Rockstar in the film with the same name , a story of an aspiring musician from a humble background to an international stardom.To prepare for this role, Ranbir took upto studying their mannerisms . he learnt to play the guitar and practiced extensively at A R Rehman’s music studio. As a part of the film’s promotion he also performed live concert in Mumbai.
He won the Best Actor Award at the 57th Filmfare Awards and also awards at the Screen Awards and IIFA while the film also touched the gross revenue of 1.07 billion and the film Rockstar was considered to be one of the top grossing films of the year.
In the comedy film Barfi which earned a box office success , he played the role of a deaf and mute man . The role had the streaks of the performance of Charlie Chaplin’s mannerisms and he received praise for his performance and as a tribute role, the film was showcased as the India’s Official entry for the 85th Academy Awards to be screened at the Maarakech and Busan International Film Festival. He won the second consecutive Best Actor Award at Filmfare, Screen and IIFA Award Ceremonies..
Ranbir further achieved a grand success for his films Yeh Jawani Hai Deewani, which was again one of the highest grossing Bollywood films in that year. Proving Ranbir Kapoor to be one of the most versatile actors who did justice to every role that he played with ease. The third consecutive success in three years earned him more nominations for Best Actor Awards.His onscreen chemistry with Deepika Padukone was praised as they made a unique pair.
Next was his film Besharam with his parents Rishi Kapoor and Neetu Singh , an action comedy film that met with negative reception and the film emerged as a failure at the box office.
Ranbir Kapoor then took a year long break from the films and featured later as a mysterious thief in the film Roy in 2015, a romantic thriller which was again a failure and he did a few more flop films and with the film Bombay Velvet which was a successful film and also screened at Locarno and Bucheon Film Festivals.
After the break of Ranbir and Deepika Padukone in their personal life, they reunited on the professional front to come together in the film Tamasha in 2015, produced by Imtiaz Ali a romantic drama . The film failed commercially and this film received mixed reviews however his performance was praised The film earned him the nomination of Best Actor Award.
Ranbir’s upcoming projects in 2016 are the films Ae Dil Hai Mushkil co starring with Aishwarya Rai Bachchan and Anushka Sharma. He will essay a role of a musician once again and the comedy mystery film Jagga Jasoos will feature him with Katrina Kaif in the role of a teenage detective to be released later this year.
In addition he has a few more films signed up opposite to Alia Bhatt in Ayan Mukerji’s Dragon, a fantasy film about a man with super powers and another film that he will portray the actor Sanjay Dutt in a biopic directed by Rajkumar Hirani.
Born in a family of popular actors, Ranbir Kapoor has faced a spotlight from a very young age. In his short career span of 10 to 15 films Ranbir Kapoor has achieved a tremendous success for his generation and he is one of the most popular and high profile actors we have today.
