Brahmastra: Part One - Shiva (2022) is an Indian fantasy action-adventure film written and directed by Ayan Mukerji. Released in Hindi, Tamil, Telugu, Malayalam, and Kannada. It features Ranbir Kapoor, Alia Bhatt, Amitabh Bachchan, Mouni Roy, and Nagarjuna, with Shah Rukh Khan in a special appearance. The narrative follows Shiva, a musician orphaned when he was young, as he learns his true fate as an astra with supernatural pyrokinetic powers, who is interlinked with the Brahmastra, a legendary weapon that is feared and the destroyer of the universe.
The film begins with Shiva living life as a carefree DJ. His life takes on a whole new meaning when he meets and falls in love with Isha. When Shiva starts having strange visions, he begins unravelling a new secret world where guardians are protecting ancient astras, each of which embodies cosmic energies as part of the universe. He learns that he is an astra, with tremendous pyrokinetic powers and has untethered links to Brahmāstra, which is the most powerful and dangerous weapon capable of saving and destroying the world.
With the help of Guru (Amitabh Bachchan), Shiva realises his destiny by igniting his powers to stop Junoon (Mouni Roy), who is an unrelenting darkness, bent on unleashing the Brahmāstra and total chaos. During the journey, Shiva comes to terms with his ignorance of his past, the reality of what happened to his parents and that love with Isha is the key to controlling his inner fire. The build culminates in a classic climax and ultimate confrontation where Shiva's powers fight destiny, setting the stage for a much larger battle yet to come.
Visually spectacular and emotionally driven, Brahmastra: Part One - Shiva combines mythology with modern storytelling. It still delivers a unique cinematic experience, mostly by combining love, adventure and cosmic action. With two sequels already in development, scheduled for release in December 2026 and December 2027, this epic promises to expand the Āstraverse further. The film is worth seeing for its captivating introduction to a wider, interconnected universe of astras, in addition to its stunning visuals and stirring performances.
